You remain the writer and the decision-maker at every step; nothing happens without your say-so.
It runs on the Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already pay for, and your whole body of work stays as plain Markdown files on your own computer—no cloud, no lock-in, and no per-word billing. Draftward itself is free for 30 days, no credit card, and $5 a month after that.
Artistic commitment
We aspire to build a tool that helps create the next generation of essays worth reading—not something to produce AI slop that floods the internet, and not something to produce harmful or dangerous content. We can't right the ethical and copyright harms done to build large language models. But we can use the technology to push forward the frontier of human thought, argument, and craft.
Environmental commitment
We recognize that AI tools have an environmental cost. We are committed to calculating this tool's impact on the environment and assessing what, and in what amount, it is feasible to donate to charity—and to which charities we ought to donate—to offset any environmental impact.
